Michelle Quay sits on the CMES faculty steering committee and offers courses in Persian language and culture. Her research focuses on premodern and modern Persian literature and contemporary Iranian cinema and culture. With the Omar Khayyam Postdoctoral Research Associate, she organizes film screenings, lectures and workshops for the Brown and Providence communities.
The Omar Khayyam postdoctoral research associate position in Iranian studies is part of the Iranian Studies research initiative, which seeks to critically explore and facilitate innovative lines of academic inquiry in this field. Associates teach one class a year and participate in research-related programming on campus.
The Persian program at Brown uses cutting-edge pedagogical methods to propel students to proficiency in Persian, whether their goal is to connect with Persian speakers, explore Persian-language news and media, experience Persian literature in the original or conduct research in Persian. Special emphasis is laid on textual and audio-visual materials from Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and the Persian-speaking diaspora.
