Mahbubeh Moqadam is the new Omar Khayyam Postdoctoral Research Associate in Iranian Studies at Brown University. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where her research focused on social movements, gender, digital activism and contemporary Iran. Her work examines Iran’s Generation Z and women’s resistance across intertwined online and offline spaces, with particular attention to how gender, generation, memory, emotion and affect shape collective action and social transformation. Her research has appeared in leading sociology and gender studies journals, including Social Forces, Critical Sociology, Gender & Development, and the Journal of Asian and African Studies, and has been recognized through international, national, and university-level awards and fellowships, including an American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowship, the Society for the Study of Social Problems Best Paper Award, and recognition from the American Sociological Association’s Sociology of Culture Section.
